The iPhone 7 along with the other in the latest generations of smartphones can shoot amazing looking video. The days of crappy video from your phone are over. The newest phones are being utilized by professional filmmakers to produce and shoot short films and documentaries.
It’s a whole new world when shooting video on mobile.
For a time, it was a big deal to be able to shoot 720p on your smartphone. Consequently, options were limited. Now, 1080p is standard, and some phones can shoot 4K which is amazing. Additional features such as time lapse and the ability to shoot in slow motion have only enhanced the capabilities people have shooting video on their phones.
Not only can phones shoot 720p to 4K, but it can also film a variety of frame rates. The iPhone 7 Plus shoots 720p at 30 fps and can shoot 1080p at 30 fps and 60 fps. Slow motion can shot 1080p at 120 fps and 720p at 240 fps.
So how does it look? I went to downtown Atlanta one week and shot some footage. You’ll have to forgive my limited skills. If you want to see some great work, head over and check out the work my friend Chris Fenner does. Here is what I shot:
One of the best features is the built-in stabilization. Therefore, the clips look smooth despite the camera being handheld. Everything was edited in Adobe Premiere Pro.
